Blog 13 ( Review on 20% project)

Today My English teacher Mr. Lee told us to do our last blog on our 20 % project. At the beginning of the year I looked at this assignment as a burden but later on thought of it as a blessing. Through my blogging I learned more about my cousin Hebron then I have known about him before. I really don't want to stop blogging. But I know I was successful on the 20% percent project because I did what I said I would do which is to write a story on my cousin. I would like to thank my audience around the world to even consider my blog. Who ever you may be I hope you enjoyed my blogs at least a little bit. I know I may not be the best writer but I try writing my best. I loved doing the 20% project which is based off of a Google routine that Google workers work on. Please if you haven't checked out the story NFL Rookie please view it if you can. The story should be linked to my blog account because I blogged the story. Down below is a video link of students presentations on the 20% percent project.

Over the weekend I finally finished my story! I am so excited to share the story with others and especially with  my cousin. I also presented to the class what I did on the 20% project through a presentation. Down below you will find a video link of the video that I shared on the presentation. The video shows my cousin Loni and his input on the NFL draft. My story is linked with my blogger account so feel free to read it when you have any free time.  Please if you can tell others about the story so my cousin can potentially have more support from people around the world. I hope that this story can motivate you or people you know. I myself can relate to the story because I am not giving up on my goals and am working hard so one day I will know what true success is and so one day I can help someone by motivating them to become something greater to become a successful person who stands out to others. In my church we have a scripture that says "Arise and shine forth that thy standard may a standard for the nations." I wanted to share the scripture because I know that everyone has a light and potentials in them. People need to find that light in themselves through one way or another and I know that my cousin has found that light with in him self.

My English teacher Mr. Lee told me that I would be presenting my 20% project on Thursday the 29th of May. I am nervous but I know that I have no need to worry as long as I finish my story. So this weekend I will spend a lot of time finishing my story. The title of my story will be NFL Rookie ( the story of Hebron Fangupo). I f you guys are interested in reading my story it will be linked to this blog. Just go to my account and look at my blogs and it should be there. It is called NFL Rookie. I am so excited because school is coming to an end and I will finally finish my story. I hope that my story will inspire other athletes and people to work hard on their goals and try to become a more successful person. One last thing I would like to share is that one trait that successful people do is to not quit.

I am finally starting to work on my cousins story once again and hopefully I will finish by the time I have to present what I have.  My cousin has been in Pittsburgh for a little while now and he has been really working hard so he can do a lot better this football season and possibly show that he can be a potential starter for the Steelers. I know my cousin Loni may be a lot older than other rookies but I know that his health is good because he doesn't drink alcohol or do drugs. I know that because of the faith my cousin has he will be able to do great things both on and off the field. Loni is and has been a great role model for me and am glad I had an opportunity to share with you some of the motivation I have gained from my cousin Loni's example.

So finally I can start lifting weights again. It sucked  not being able to lift weights for about 6 weeks. While I was recovering I saw people in my sports getting really strong and I wanted to surpass them and get better. Going through surgery helped me appreciate lifting weights more and motivated me to get better when I can start lifting weights again. While going through recovery my cousin  Hebron reassured me that I can still get strong and better. I made a goal to recover like a beast in football season. A prime example for me is my cousin because he would tell me" no matter what you do don't give up." When I started lifting weights I was really weak I felt like a little boy. John aka "BIG JOHN" my wrestling partner was lifting weights and saying "Get on my level Zion." Now I am back in football and working hard for season but also so I can destroy the team captain  Big John in wrestling in front of everyone during wrestling season and surprise my wrestling Coach.

My cousin went back to Pittsburgh once again for football. I wont see my cousin for a while now. While he was here he was a good example for me. Since I have started lifting again I remember his words of inspiration so I will be motivated to get better. When I lift weights I feel super weak because of surgery but that's not going to stop me because I know as I work hard I can only get better. While Hebron was here down in Anaheim he was on a really strict diet and he was constantly exercising because back at work per each pound over the weight they tell you to be is a fine of $7,000 dollars out of the players pay checks so you can imagine how strict they are in the NFL.My cousin is a hard worker and I look up to him as a great role model.

This last Friday March 28th the churches youth was having a dinner fundraiser. My cousin Hebron was attending and so did his wife and son. my cousin Rebekah married to Hebron  my cousin(in law) was making cinnamon rolls for the dessert auction and my grandma Linda Handy was making a triple chocolate cake for it along with my aunts fancy Easter chocolate cake. When we got to the event I went with the rest of the youth to help serve others who paid to attend. Hebron was auctioning a Fijian wooden stick called the " Neck Breaker" it was said that Fijians would use the wooden neck breakers to kill any intruders who invaded their territory. With my cousin Hebron's humor he wrote under quick description " for the silent auction that the Neck Breaker was for "In case of a zombie apocalypse".  My grandma is a woman who likes to collect things from different cultures and things all over so when she saw the neck breaker she bid on it until she finally got it ha-ha. Well I have to tell you that when the desert auctioneer was auction off Hebrons wife cinnamon roll he bid on it for 80 dollars to get his precious cinnamon rolls back.

During my visit to the hospital the doctors made me walk and I thought "how can I go home tomorrow this is painful." later after days the pain was gone and I felt allot better so that was good. Hebron was back in Anaheim but I was still in San Diego with my mom recovering. I emailed my teachers to send my homework and I was getting behind in school and missed about a week and a half of school. On Wednesday the 12th of March I was back at school ready to catch up in my schooling. I would spend lunches with my teachers trying to catch up and I thought to myself "man its hard to miss so much schooling and catch up so fast". I kind of compared this thought to my cousin Hebron and how he came to America and work so hard under his circumstances and to try to become a successful football player. Hebron never gave up and that is why he is where he is today. I also know from Hebron and personal experiences that we are nothing without god and with god we are capable of all things. Hebron always shared that at the end of the day when players and fans are gone the only people who are left is you and god.

Hebron and his family were scheduled to arrive Saturday and I was supposed to go back to Anaheim Saturday as well but unfortunately I had appendicitis and my appendix was about to burst so I went in to surgery down in San Diego at Pomerado hospital which was the same hospital that I was born at. Hebron on the other hand stayed at the flight stop Fiji for a little while because his son Taulanga had an ear infection or problem. While they were in Fiji they had a great time and even celebrated Taulangas second birthday. They had such a great time that they made a video and shared it with the rest of the family. I usually thought that if I ever had to have surgery then I would be very scared or nervous but in fact I wasn't I was just looking forward to getting some rest during surgery and getting that appendix out. On of the many disadvantages during recovery and having stiches is that I can't lift weights for a little while and its even more of a disadvantage because Hebron can't train me in weights and what not. But as I am recovering my desire to lift weights is increasing so once I recover Hebron can train me.

Before my cousin comes back from Tonga I am going to see and visit with my mom and grandparents down in San Diego. By the time I get back to Anaheim my cousin should be there because I am coming back down the Saturday his flight is supposed to arrive. I am so excited for when he and his family comes back so he can train me and help me get stronger in lifting weights. I myself have been bench pressing and have seen some gains but not as much as if it were with the help and support of Hebron he has a really good technique. I have not worked on the story much so that needs to be one of my top priorities when I have some free time. I cant wait till they come I mean Hebron is a good person and role model to not only me but also to many others.

I am still waiting for my next wrestling season to start and I am using the free time I have to my advantage by working out, getting caught up in my schooling, and raising my grades. Loni is coming back from the island of Tonga to Anaheim, California once again this SaturdayFebruary 29th. Loni promised me that he would help me with working out when he gets back so I am pumped up for that. I can't wait for him to come back and also his cute son Taulanga. One look from his son Taulanga can and will make your day. Loni and his son are truly relatable in many ways like for instance their bodies relate. It's quite funny because Taulanga looks super strong for his age. I have been thinking about a lot of traits successful people have and those traits include things like not giving up even if a task or goal seems unrealistic or unreasonable. I truly believe that all successful people have all failed at least once before, because you truly can't succeed unless you have failed before or have failed during the process of success and then used a strong will power to stand up and keep trying even if your goal seems unreachable.

My cousin is still on the island of Tonga right now still visiting with his family up there. When he comes back he will still stay for a little while in Anaheim, California with us. I will also be able to work out with him. I trust his work-out techniques because he had massive results and he can bench press over 600 pounds. He was able to support me on my last wrestling duel against Century High school which is the school he attended and played football at. One of the coaches for their wrestling team played football with him so it was cool for my cousin and him to meet once again. When I was talking to some of the Century kids I asked them if they new my cousin and they would call him by his nick name The Hammer. Loni(Hebron) earned his nickname because in one of the football practices he pushed this guy so hard that he lifted him up into the air and then slammed him back down to the ground just like a hammer. It was cool for me to hear that because I had no clue that he was given a nickname there and that he is a big inspiration to them. In many ways Loni is a big inspiration to me and he always reminds me to do my best in everything I do and I know that he does his best in everything he does and that is why he is successful.

My teacher Mr. lee told the class to start out the new semester renaming the blogs from number one again so we have a fresh start with new and more blogs. I finished my wrestling season and made a decision to stay in wrestling longer and do the other type of wrestling called freestyle which is the same type of wrestling used in the Olympics. My cousin came to one of my matches to and it was cool to see his support. Last night he trained me in lifting weights and is helping me get stronger for my athletics. I am working on his story little by little so I can make more progress. I am trying to gain more strength for wrestling and football. Next year I might consider trying out for baseball.  My cousin will be going to the Island of Tonga to visit his family. When he comes back he will help me lift weights and advance more in my strength. I like my cousins methods on working out because he is living proof that you can increase strength a lot naturally. When my cousin first went to high school foot ball it was hard for him to do 25 pounds on each side of the bench press bar. 2 weeks after his work-out method he was able to lift 2 plates on each side at least once. I know that when times may seem harm and rough some of us want to quit but we should all remember the men who fought for our freedom once and did not quit even to the point that the only way to quit was by being killed in battle for our rights. Many of us may have our own motivation or inspiration and we should try to set our goals high as my cousin did.   Muhammad Ali once said "I hated every minute of training, but I said, Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion." The reason I share this quote is to show the type of person my cousin is and in order to be successful you cannot quit as Muhammad Ali said " suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."

1/8/2014 After spending Christmas break with my mom in San Diego I took a train back to Anaheim and my cousin Loni picked me up at the Amtrak train station. It is always good to see my cousin Rebekah and little Taulanga as well. Rebekah went to the same high school that I am currently attending which is Savanna. She played basketball and was coached by Coach Whalen, my football coach. She played volleyball and other sports as well. She went to college for two years on a scholarship for her to play volleyball at Cal State Dominguez Hills that paid for everything. But then she met Loni when he played football for USC and fell in love with him and gave up her scholarship to marry him. Rebekah is a good wife and mother to her husband and son and I know that she is also a good cook. she always cooks healthy meals for Loni during his football season. Here is a picture of Loni and Rebekah on their wedding day  at the L.A. LDS Mormon Temple  with my cousins Sione Tufui, Koloa, Kamorah, and baby Keturah. Loni ( Hebron) gets most of his inspiration from his wife. Rebekah is truly an amazing wife to him and also a great motivator and eternal companion. Loni thinks of how important his family is to him and uses that as part of his motivational drive during practice or during a game when he may play.

10th blog

1/1/2014 Happy New Year's! One of my New Year's resolutions for my academics is to do my story and complete my blogs more efficiently. It was an exciting game on Sunday Dec 29 as the Steelers beat Cleveland. Their final score of wins and losses was 8 and 8. Now it was up to how well the other teams did, especially the main competition was the Chargers, who played after the Steelers on Sunday. If the Chargers lost, then the Steelers would go to the playoffs. If the Chargers won, then they would have the higher bargain or wins and go to the playoffs. The Chargers played into overtime and barely won. This is good for my hometown San Diego. It was an upset and the Steelers were super close to make it to the playoffs. Loni looks at this experience as motivation and looking forward to next season, and hoping for a better one with more playing time. Luckily for Loni, he now has a break and he can spend time with the family. So he and Rebekah and Taulanga are arriving tomorrow to my Uncle Phil's house in which I live at. Loni will be able to answer all my questions on the story and help me with his insights. I am happy to give up my room to them and move into the family room for the remainder of their stay. My cousin Keturah who is four years old made the paper in Pittsburgh during her visit with Loni and Rebekah. She was in the snow for the first time. Here is the picture in the paper.

12/25/2013  Merry Christmas! I woke up to an amazing sight under my Christmas tree. I was not excited to open gifts but I was happy to see the excitement on my mother's face as she was about to open the gift I got her, a jewelry box. We enjoyed going to my grandparent's home for dinner. This day I was excited to hear my Uncle Phil and Uncle Russell's families arrived in Pittsburgh to visit Hebron (Loni) and his family and to see the Steelers play their last important game of the season. If the Steelers win they still have a chance to go to the NFL play offs. Everyone knows that Loni's job on the team is a back up defensive tackle and nose guard and that he might not play. His chances of playing are slim if the starters don't get hurt or have problems. Loni does his job by being ready to go. He has played in all games this season except for four and he did well.  Loni's wife  my cousin Rebekah cooked a meal for all of them. Loni and Rebekah enjoyed everyone visiting them so far way. Loni said, "It was so fun. Awesome!" Here is a picture taken of the visit. Loni and Rebekah are in the middle in the back. My Uncle Phil and Aunt Vicki who I live with in Anaheim are in the back on the right next to Sione Tufui who is home from Air Force Academy. I often wear my Air Force Academy jacket to school because I like wearing things that represent something special to me.

12/18/2013 I am still where I was last week on my story but I can't wait until this Friday because it is the start of Christmas break. This Christmas break  I will try to spend  time on my story. I hope I can finally get a lot of work done. I will visit and spend time with my mom this Christmas break and celebrate Christmas with her. I am going to see my mom in San Diego along with my brother and sister & grandparents. While I see them my Aunt and Uncle and cousins will be visiting Hebron and his family and meet up with my Uncle Russell and his family to see the Steelers last game on December 29th. I could have probably went to Pittsburgh with my Aunt and Uncle but I decided to go see my mom, brother, and sister because it was more important to me and I haven't really had much time to spend with them. I know that Hebron's son Taulanga will become a great man some day because of his father's influence. There was a really nice article on Hebron showing his hard work ethics which he attained and now applies working on his family farm on the island of Tonga.
